Roberto A. Scattolin has many years experience
writing about military history, specifically, the
history of the Napoleonic period in Europe and
particularly in northern Italy. Having a military
background has been an advantage in his research and
understanding warfare of the times. His works are
well-researched, detailed accounts of battles and the
commanders as well the political-economic-social
factors behind the turmoil in Europe during the early
19th
century. Mr. Scattolin
has taken some obscure events as well as unusual
locations and brought them to life. One example is
the cemetery in Elvas, Portugal, which contains the
graves of British soldiers who fought in the
Peninsular campaign. He explored the reasons why the
British troops were buried there and how well-kept
the cemetery is. Another well-researched topic is the
Battle of Essling in which he illustrates the
stubbornness of Napoleon and his disregard for the
lives of his troops.
